Meet The Artists
Inside Broadway teaching artists work in New York City public school classrooms implementing our residency programs. Their theatrical expertise and experience encompass the worlds of Broadway and Off Broadway in the fields of Theater, Dance and Music as well as Scenic and Costume Design. Our artists share their knowledge through in-depth, curriculum based residencies that meet the New York City Department of Education’s Theater Blueprint as well as the New York State Standards for the Arts.
Abigail Jones, Lead Teaching Artist & Bookkeeper, has been with Inside Broadway for over 15 years! She has studied locally with Arabella Hong Young, Broadway Dance Studios, HB Studios as well as with Master Classes in California, where she hails from. Spending over 25 years in the professional theater her favorite part is introducing children to the magic of live theater.
Braddon is proud to be a 4th generation Californian; now transplanted to New York City for the past 30+ years, he is definitely a New Yorker. With a BFA from the United States International University in San Diego California, Braddon has had an extensive and varied career in both the theatre and academic life. Touring Europe & the United States as an actor in countless productions: West Side Story to My Fair Lady, Cabaret to Oklahoma, to his work with Inside Broadway in the inner city schools of New York City, he just never stops. As the artistic director of Simply Elementary Inc. he brought his own personal focus on helping kids find their inner strength and overcoming the obstacles of their lives. As a teaching artist for Inside Broadway, Braddon is thrilled to be able to bridge the worlds of theatre and academics to help children and even children at heart live up to their promising potential.
Heather Edwards, Lead Musical Director & Assistant to the Executive Director, trained as a classical pianist and graduated from Berklee College of Music. She works as a pianist/songwriter/recording artist who has performed with many types of bands – from funk and rock to jazz and country. Heather writes and performs her own music as well as conducts, directs, and performs in musical theatre. She also enjoys teaching private piano lessons to children and working with children in musical theatre as pianist and Musical Director for Inside Broadway. She has released three CDs: “To Be Continued”, “Eclectic Energy” and “Go With The Flow”. She has also played a wide range of characters as an actress in television, film, and theatre. Patrick G. McGee is a teaching artist and a professional actor originally from Rochester, NY. He has his B.F.A. in Theatre Performance from Niagara University where he graduated with honors and is currently working towards is M.S. Ed in Educational Theatre at The City College of New York. As a professional actor, he has worked in NYC, toured the US, and worked in many regional houses. Recently, his work in the film, Small Talk, has won several awards at many film festivals. As a teaching artist, he has worked with The Play Group Theatre, Manhattan Children's Theatre, and Brooklyn Acting Lab. He has directed The Jungle Book Kids and Willy Wonka Kids for Kidstage in Rochester, NY and also served as the head of the high school summer acting program for The Aquinas Institute Summer Theatre Intensive. Erin Spears Ledford
Erin is thrilled to begin her third year as a Teaching Artist with Inside Broadway. As a graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC, Erin began her career performing in theaters throughout the United States. On the National Tour of Oliver Erin performed the role of Mrs. Sowerberry and went on as the Understudy to Nancy. Her favorite regional credits include Anita in West Side Story, Meg Brockie in Brigadoon, and Bomballurina in Cats. Erin played herself in the Japanese nationally televised reality show Broadway Dreams in collaboration with Japanese pop sensation AKB48. One of her favorite appearances was in The Muse Machine Alumni Concert at The Players Club in NYC, hosted by Susan Blackwell. Erin has combined her years of performance experience with her passion for performing arts education in order to inspire the next generation. As a teaching artist with Inside Broadway, Erin strives to enrich the future of her students by using theater to teach self-confidence, teamwork, patience, and creativity.
Annalisa is a performer, choreographer and teaching artist based in Brooklyn. She has been a teaching artist for a number of years through private programs, the public schools and summer camps specializing in musical theater, creative dance and drama. Annalisa is part of the artistic core of the new dance theater company, Current Harbor. She is on the artistic committee and co-producer for National Choreography Month. A graduate from Drew University with a major in Theater and a minor in dance, with an honors thesis on urban sociology told through dance theater. She also attended the New York Film Academy’s Musical Theater Conservatory after graduation. Annalisa has created and performed in new works at The 14th Street Y, The WorkShop Theatre, Joe’s Pub, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Playwrights Theatre of NJ, Windhover Performing Arts, New Perspectives Theatre, Stonington Opera House, Two Rivers Theatre, The Chain Theatre, The Tank, Under St. Marks, Mark Morris, The Actors Fund Arts Center and The Clurman Theater. She performs frequently with Superhero Clubhouse an award winning environment theater company and Writopia, a play festival celebrating playwrights ages 6-18 in a professional setting. Annalisa is thrilled to be part of the Inside Broadway team!
Tatiana Keegan is a 20-time ballroom dance champion and teacher who specializes in helping children express themselves through dance. In her native Russia, she taught in public schools and cultural centers for kids age six to twelve. After coming to the United States in 1995, she spent three years in the Dancing Classrooms program and private studio run by Pierre Dulaine, who inspired the films Mad Hot Ballroom and Take The Lead. For the last ten years, she has given private lessons to children ages twelve and up.As a dancer, Tatiana has won many of the most competitive International Latin championships, including the United States Ballroom Championship with Tony Dovolani of Dancing With The Stars and placed among the top dancers in the world at the Blackpool Dance Festival in England. After taking a break to marry and have a child, she made a comeback in 2009, reaching the World Professional Latin Championships in Germany with partner Werner Figar.Tatiana's inspiring comeback as a ballroom-dancing mom generated national media coverage in Woman’s Day and Fortune magazines and the Emmy-award winning Comcast series, “Seeking Solutions with Suzanne.” As a teacher she has also appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman and the AMC reality television series Into Character.Today, Tatiana performs show dances with partner Lukas Chockuba and teaches children, social dancers,seniors, same-sex couples, wedding couples, and top competitive dancers in a wide variety of styles, including International Latin (Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive) and Standard and American Smooth (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango,Quickstep, and Viennese Waltz) as well as Swing, Salsa, and Merengue.
Hailing from Orlando, Florida, Maria Kent is a highly versatile performer who comes from a classically trained background. Beginning her journey into the world of dance at a very young age she performed with numerous ballet companies throughout the Sunshine state. Feeling the need to grow as a performer, Maria couldn't resist the urge of the Big Apple and moved there in 1999. After testing the waters and struggling through the daily audition grind, she nailed an audition to be a Las Vegas Showgirl and immediately moved to Las Vegas to perform in Donn Arden's Jubilee, fulfilling a lifelong dream! Having crossed that goal off her bucket list, she ended up in Osaka, Japan a year later, this time performing as a living statue while also training Japanese students for rhythmic gymnastic competitions. Maria is also known for her one of a kind costume designs and makeup styles. Maria has created makeup looks for various performance artists, traveling circus shows, editorials, commercials and so much more. Maria is constantly creating bigger and bolder costumes and remains on the cutting edge with her variety of creative and inspiring makeup looks. Maria is very excited to be apart of the makeup department for her first year with Inside Broadway, she looks forward to help each and every child in the program transform themselves into an extravagant character!
Joe Burby A proud graduate of Fredonia State and its multi-faceted Theater Arts program and a member of Actor’s Equity, Joe has worn many hats in the theater including producing traveling theater for young audiences, scenic painting, and directing at Pied Piper Children's Theater of New York; coming this December, “A Charlie Brown Christmas". He is designing and building sets for Repertory Company HS at Town Hall this year for "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" and "Fiddler on the Roof.” Joe is a member of The Workshop Theater Company where he lends his acting skills to the development of new writers and new plays, recently appearing there in “Mesquite, NV” by Gridley Stevens. Voice work includes Acoustigude tours at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island National Parks. joeburby.com
As a young person growing up in rural New York State, the arts helped open doors of possibility for me that otherwise I might never have known, making me a more well-rounded person and I am honored to pass that knowledge on to the next generation.
JACEY POWERS is an Off-Broadway actress and graduate of CAP21 at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She began teaching at age 16 and hasn’t stopped since. She has directed and choreographed more than two dozen children’s shows ranging from Seussical to Macbeth She has taught workshops for Annie On Broadway through PBS, and for Student’s Live! A division of NAMCO. She was the summer artistic director of the John Engeman School of Performing Arts and has taught at various programs throughout New York including TVI Studios, Applause, and the New York Public School System. Andrew J. Hanley is a New York City-based composer and lyricist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His works include Paris Girls (with Anderson John Heinz), Look (with Jessica Bedford), and The First Six,and contributions to the New York Neo-Futurists’ The Great American Drama. Andrew’s music has been heard in concerts and performances at Joe’s Pub, Feinstein’s/54 Below, LA’s A Little New Music, Musical Theatre Factory, and NYMF, and more. He is a member of the writers group at Musical Theatre Factory, a resident company of Playwrights Horizons and has worked as a music assistant and copyist for Powerhouse Theater, New York Stage and Film, Disney Theatrical, Ambassador Theatre Group, and more.
Jessica is a Manhattan based singer, actor, and teaching artist. During her time in New York she has performed Off-Broadway, with Disney Cruise Lines, and has toured the United States and internationally. When not on the stage, Jessica stay busy with voice-over work, recording background vocals for bands, and has spent time as a teaching assistant with CO/Lab, a not-for-profit theater company and creative outlet for individuals with developmental disabilities. She is thrilled to begin her journey with Inside Broadway!
Rodrigo Nogueira is a Brazilian playwright, screenwriter, lyricist, and director. He has written feature films distributed by Mira Vista (Disney’s Latin American division), Universal, and Sony Pictures.He wrote the book of the largest-ever theatrical production of a Brazilian musical, Rock in Rio: The Musical. In television, he was on the writing team responsible for the Brazilian version of the worldwide hit Ugly Betty.In the last 10 years, Rodrigo has written fifteen dramatic plays, four musicals, three films, two telenovelas and one TV show. He has won the Shell Award and APTR (Theatrical Producers Association of Rio de Janeiro) as best playwright, two of the most prestigious theater awards in Brazil.Rodrigo has directed five shows, three concerts and published two books. Last year, he wrote and directed the opening act for the “Rock in Rio” festival in Lisbon. This musical theater concert was performed daily for a crowd of 50,000 viewers, opening the main stage for artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Queen + Adam Lambert, and Maroon 5.Recently, he has moved to New York where he has been working on several projects including Life: The Musical, The Movie of Your Life, and One Night in New York!
Vicki Oceguera is an actor, teaching artist, and puppeteer originally from California. She attended UC Santa Barbara, where she Majored in Dramatic Art and Psychology, and Minored in Education. Vicki moved to New York to attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, where she honed her skills in Musical Theater. As an actor, Vicki has performed in multiple National Tours as well as many Off-Broadway and Regional productions. Specializing in Theater for Young Audiences, Vicki has worked with John Tartaglia on the National Tour of "Dinosaur Train Live" and with Mills Entertainment on the National Tour of "Clifford the Big Red Dog". She also performed in several New York City school tours about healthy eating, bullying, and healthy choices. Vicki's favorite part about performing children's theater is inspiring kids to have a greater appreciation of theater and motivating them to explore their creative side. Currently, she also works as an actor/educator with the city zoos performing for kids and leading workshops. She loves using theater to engage, embolden, and build the confidence of our youth. She is honored to be a part of Inside Broadway.
Emmanuel De Jesus
Emmanuel De Jesus from San Juan, Puerto Rico is a Dancer and Makeup Artist. As a Dancer he has performed and trained with the companies Ballet Concierto and Ballet Nacional de Puerto Rico. He has toured the world as a backup dancer for many major Latin recording artists. His professional dance credits include Bernardo in the West Side Story 50th anniversary International Tour, A Chorus Line, Chicago, as well as major ad campaigns for Hermes, Swarovski, Elle UK, Redken, Target, L'Oreal, Qdos UK, OLC Tokyo and NBC Latino. As a makeup artist he began his career doing makeup for dance companies and stage performances as well as working as a free lance artist for brands such as Laura Mercier. Currently he is a product specialist and artist for MAC cosmetics. He also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Natural Sciences with a major in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico.
Vanessa is an actor, singer, teaching artist, and voice teacher born and raised in NY. Vanessa has performed in new works, readings, and concerts with Prospect Theatre Company, The Second Act Series at 54 Below, Astoria Performing Arts Center, New York City Children's Theatre, The National Arts Club, and Rockwood Music Hall. Her favorite regional credits include Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, and Anne in The Diary of Anne Frank. Recently, she toured the country with Camp Broadway working as both a teaching artist and performer. She has worked with New York City Children's Theatre as both a teaching artist and performer as well. Vanessa has trained extensively in classical voice, holds a B.A. in Theatre from Queens College, and has studied intensively at Broadway Dance Center and HBStudio. She is extremely devoted to working with children in the realm of musical theatre, and is especially passionate about creating a safe and fun environment for children to discover and hone their love for music and theatre. Aaron F. Brateman
Aaron F. Brateman is an actor, director, and teaching artist. He is a graduate of NYU Tisch, where he studied at the Atlantic Acting School and Playwrights Horizons Theater School. As a performer, Aaron has been seen Off-Broadway, in a national tour, and at other theaters around the city. Over the last 10 years, he has directed 50 productions with kids of all ages, many of them at French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts. Aaron also teaches at the Atlantic Acting School, and works privately with his own students. Jake Bridges is a proud native of Birmingham, AL who now calls Brooklyn home. Jake has performed all over the country and internationally in the national tours of South Pacific, Beauty and the Beast,and aboard Disney Cruise Lines. Regional stops include North Shore Music Theatre, Ogunquit Playhouse, Theatre By the Sea, Westchester Broadway Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre Company and the Barnstormers Theatre. He is thrilled to be joining the Inside Broadway family and has just recently embarked on the journey as an arts education instructor. He grew up engrossed in the arts as a child and cannot wait to impart his knowledge on the next generation of superstars!
Jessica Giannone is an actress, teaching artist, and NY Times recommended baker (PieBirds). She holds a M.A. in Professional Acting from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (UK) and B.F.A. in Performing Arts and Vocal Performance from The Savannah College of Art and Design. She is also a graduate of the Improv and Musical Improv programs at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Jessica has happily been teaching in NYC for over 7 years and is excited to be part of Inside Broadway! She’s taught with PS87 After school, Kids Creative, Joffrey Ballet School Musical Theatre Intensive, Stages on the Sound, and more.Programs included making films and creating musicals with kindergarteners to staging full productions with young professionals. Recently, she played Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream at The Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre, for which she was nominated for a Falstaff Award alongside Judi Dench. While in England, Jessica performed in Jez Butterworth's The River at The Tobacco Factory and Glasgow Citizens Theatre's production of The Libertine at the historic Bristol Old Vic. Producer, engineer, and award-winning composer and vocalist, Christopher has been making and recording music and audio since the days of reel-to-reel and cassette. He earned a B.S. in Media Production from Florida State University and is an alum of the Recording, Radio, and Film Connection.Christopher serves as an Adjunct Instructor at the Institute of Audio Research in New York City. A formally trained vocalist, Christopher also plays guitar and bass.
Whitney Stone is a Brooklyn-based director/choreographer who has been an active member of the theater community in NYC and it’s surrounding boroughs for the last decade. She is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, a member of the faculty at the Mark Morris Dance Center, and she earned her BFA in Theatre Arts Performance and a minor in Dance from Hofstra University. She recently made her Off-Broadway debut directing the premiere of Molasses in January, a new musical by Francine Pellegrino. She has been with the project since the initial workshops, and she returns to Molasses in the spring for a run at the Snapple Theater Center. Her other recent credits include Footloose (After Work Theater), Les Miserables (Locust Valley Jesters), and Something’s Afoot (Maggie’s Little Theater). As a choreographer, her credits include the world premiere of Nutcracker! The Musical (Westchester Sandbox Theatre), Saturday Night Fever (Theatre Three), Godspell (Jean’s Playhouse), and The Me Nobody Knows (Adelphi University).
Britton Williams, MA, RDT, LCAT, is a registered drama therapist, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, and psychoanalytic candidate. She currently works in private practice in New York City and in acute care with adults and adolescents at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Britton has published and presented on: the impact of assumptions,biases, and stereotypes on individuals, relationships and communities; creative and embodied approaches to self-assessment; and developing a relational-role theory framework and protocol. Additional practice and research interests include: ethics, client-centered care, de-escalation tools, and self-care.
Brian Heveron-Smith is a pianist, drummer/percussionist, music director, and musical comic who has performed all over Europe, Australia,Africa, North America, and in international waters with Carnival and Norwegian cruise lines. Originally from Rochester, NY, Brian holds a degree in percussion performance from the Eastman School of Music. Brian has music directed for Second City’s National Touring Company, Story Pirates, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and for many different arts summer camps and after-school programs over the years. As a composer, Brian’s soundtrack music and songs are featured on the hit web series Gayle. Brian is also an avid videographer and editor and currently works as a video technician at Opry City Stage.
Danielle was born and raised in the Bronx, New York and has been training in dance for 16 years. She found her love for dance at Performer's Edge Dance Academy located in the Bronx, NY. Later, she trained at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Broadway Dance Center where she received a certificate of excellence under the training program, Peridance, Unique Soulz under director Megz Alfonso, and multiple California studios with The Hollywood Summer Tour run by Menina Fortunato. With this training, she is experienced in Jazz, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Musical Theater, Lyrical, Tap, West-African, Ballet, Horton, and Graham.
Danielle’s professional credits include: 2015 NYFW's iconic "Target Style in Vogue", featured dancer in music videos for artists like: Boa Kwon, Natalie Eve Lyons, J. Grace, Frankie J., Danielle Cohn and Lexee Smith, A Westchester Knicks Dancer at the Westchester County Center for 2016-2018 basketball seasons, MTV’s TRL, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade choreographed by NappyTabs, The Forever Freestyle 12 performing with C-Bank, and dancer for Gina Gunz at SOBs. Today, Danielle is a member of hip-hop company Rhythm City Entertainment under Director, Alonzo Williams.
Mara Jill Herman
Mara Jill Herman is a performer, teaching artist, published author, and Backstage Expert. Her developmental/regional highlights include The Band’s Visit (Playwrights Horizons), Nerds (Philadelphia Theatre Company), and Sam’s Room (Theatre Barn’s Impact Award). Favorite productions include On The Town (Hildy), Rent (Maureen), Guys and Dolls (Adelaide), and the international tours of Disney On Classic and Jesus Christ Superstar. She originated roles at La Mama, FringeNYC, and frequently collaborates with songwriters at BMI, Prospect Theater Company, and NYU’s Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program. Mara is an adjudicator for the National YoungArts Foundation and the 2011 recipient of the Young Alumni Service Award from University Of The Arts. Cynthia Thomas Is an actress and has served as dance captain and assistant director on many, many musicals here in the states and in Europe. Cynthia is the second assistant to Arthur Faria and Richard Maltby Jr. on the Tony award winning show Ain't Misbehavin as will as performing in the show. Cynthia has the pleasure of coming to this production using her skills to assist this production. Cynthia continues to perform as will as assist and direct. Cynthia is a proud member of Actors Equity Association.
Kristin Dausch directed the award winning Rags To Bitches in the Downtown Urban Theatre festival. Kristin has starred in the Lyric Stage productions of Funny Girl as Fanny Brice, Flora the Red Menaceas Flora Mezaros and Rags as Bella, all to critical acclaim. Kristin was also featured as one of 22 soloists chosen from around the country to perform in Broadway’s Rising Stars and Broadway By The Year at Town Hall in New York City. Kristin is a graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. She is also a member of the music leadership institute in Hong Kong, China.
Luis E. Mora
Luis E. Mora is very excited to be joining the Inside Broadway team! Selected theatrical credits: Pedro Pan (Truf, Fringe, NYMF), Skippyjon Jones (Theatreworks USA), Mafatu (Live & In Color), The Buddy Holly Story (Endstation Theatre Company). Luis has a decade's experience in Arts Education. He is also a published writer and focuses his efforts on new and diverse works. Proud Colombian immigrant. Proud Actor's Equity member. Jenny is a freelance theatre director and educator based in New York City. She holds a MFA in Directing for Theatre from East 15 Acting School/University of Essex located outside London, England and a BA in Theatre from Western Kentucky University. Jenny studied Chekhov and Stanislavski at GITIS, (Russian Institute of Theatre Art) in Moscow, Russia and Acting at The Oxford School of Drama outside Oxford, England. Since the early 2000's Jenny has been directing and teaching actors of all ages and enjoys helping actors develop stories to share with audiences. Jenny believes in the power of storytelling and the importance of theatre.
Jen Varbalow has been a Teaching Artist, Scenic Artist and Scenic Designer in NYC for over 20 years.
She is currently a teaching artist with Inside Broadway, Roundabout Theatre Company, and Town Hall.
Other teaching artist work includes residencies with the Apollo Theater, Vital Theatre Co., Children’s Aid Society, TADA!, and Queens Theatre in the Park, and the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Past credits include designs for New York Deaf Theater, NYMF, MultiStages, The Workshop Theater, Bryant Park, Drilling Company/Shakespeare in the Parking Lot, Resonance Ensemble, The Artful Conspirators, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Theatre Garden, Pulse Ensemble Theatre, DR2 Theatre, Queens Theatre in the Park.
Jennifer has also worked as a designer on the animated Xmas windows at Macy’s Saks, Lord and Taylor, Warner Bros and Marshall Fields and for events for clients including Bloomberg and MTV.
She worked as a Scenic Artist at The Public Theater, Manhattan Theater Club and various scene shops.
Jennifer received her BFA from Rutgers University and her MFA from Brandeis.
Sean Lowery has been teaching music in the NYC and surrounding areas for 3 years now. He currently works at Sacred Heart Greenwich in Greenwich CT as the musical and orchestra director, as well as conductor and teacher for the chorus. Sean received his bachelors in music performance and music education from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY. This is his first year with Inside Broadway, and he is very excited to share his passion for music and musical theatre.
AJ Ackleson is honored to be joining the inside Broadway family of teaching artists! He graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Music Theatre Performance, and moved up to New York shortly after. He has been sharing his passion for the arts as a private educator teaching vocal, instrumental, and acting lessons to fellow NYC residents. AJ spent the last two summers as a song writing teacher in Sonoma, California; helping students write and perform their own song as a group for audiences of over 800 people! His favorite credits as a performer include: Peter Pan 360 (Tour); The Hipster Turkey Man in the film “Hello, My Name is Doris”; Singer/Dancer/Instrumentalist in Trancendence Theatre Company’s shows Shall We Dance & Fascinating Rhythm.
Victoria Navarino is a native New Yorker and has a degree in communications. She has worked behind the scenes and with production teams on The Wendy Williams Show, as well as NY1. She has trained in various dance styles over the last 24 years and has been teaching and choreographing for 10. She has put together many dance recitals and has worked with special needs children. Victoria is also a performer with a local community theatre group, In The Wings Productions. Nina Paradiz is a New York City based costume designer. Recent credits include Summer Musical Theater Workshop - group 3 at Kaufman Music Center, Patience & Sarah at Player's Theater, and was the Production Designer at Northeastern Children's Theater Company. She has built costumes for New York City Children's theater and has wardrobe supervised multiple shows around the city.
Torrey Nicholas Rodriguez has had a repoire with Inside Broadway for over 8 years. Graduating from Mercy College with a B.A in History, Torrey has worked with students ranging from 6 to over 65 with Inside Broadway . With several years of experience working with multiple theatre programs;(Salesian High School- Director) ( Local Celebrity Theatre- Director) (City Island Theatre Group- Director),Torrey has worked on many different musicals locally and with students ranging from High School to kindergarten. When he is not working with Inside Broadway, Torrey spends the other half of his year working with Irvin Simon Photographers; a leading organization in school portraits. Torrey is excited to be working with Inside Broadway this year, and hopes to see you at one of his next shows with Inside Broadway.
Allison Houser is a Brooklyn-based performer, director, producer and teaching artist with a focus on ensemble-based, collaborative work. She received her BFA in Drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. As a performer, Allison spends most of her time creating devised work with Bated Breath Theatre Company where she is a resident member of their Devising Ensemble. She is also a member of the No Name Collective, a collective focused on reimagining Shakespeare’s cannon. As a teaching artist, Allison works with Brooklyn Acting Lab, Young Storytellers and Inside Broadway. When she is not performing, teaching or devising with these companies, Allison is freelancing as a director/and or producer. She has produced, directed and assistant-directed at 54 Below, IATI Theatre, Dixon Place, Pushkin Hall, Center at West Park, Alchemical Studios and in many other venues around NYC. John Herrera has worked extensively as a teaching artist in New York City public schools including teaching Story Theater to early childhood special needs students, many of them on the spectrum. As an actor, John created the role of Neville in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, for which he received a Tony nomination; also on Broadway: Che in Evita, 1776, The Threepenny Opera, and Shogun among others. National Tour credits include: Chess, Les Misérables, and Angels in America. Favorite regional credits: George in Sunday in the Park and Mark Rothko in Red. As a playwright, John has written five plays, one a semi-finalist at the O'Neill Playwright's Conference. His latest The Great Writer loosely based on Ernest Hemingway is currently having developmental readings in New York.
Amy Bateman has performed on the national tours of Kanye West, Michael Bublé, and at the Newport Jazz Festival as a member of Marc Ribot's Young Philadelphians. She has toured the United States several times, toured China, and is a member of several orchestras in New York City. She began her professional career when she was 11 years old as concertmaster for the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra.
David is delighted to return to CASA as a teaching artist. David has been in NYC for the last 10 years performing and directing. David has spent the last 9 summers directing musicals at Belvoir Terrace, an all girls Arts sleep-away camp located in the Berkshires, where he is also the head of the Theatre Department. David has been directing youth theatre since receiving his BFA in Musical Theatre from the Hartt School in 2006. David has toured the country performing for children in Harry the Dirty Dog and Foodplay. He made his Off-Broadway Debut in the limited Holiday run of Dear Edwina. Brett Teresa is a California native who has spent the last fourteen years living and working in NYC. His theatrical work has varied from a professional actor, voice teacher, director/choreographer, music director, writer, teaching artist and beyond. Most recently, Brett produced and created shows for Hersheypark with RWS Entertainment Group as well as directed and vocal directed for Celebrity Cruises. Some of his favorite experiences working with young people include directing Once On This Island and Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Stagedoor Manor as well as working with Broadway Kids Auditions as a voice and acting coach for the past eight years. He is a graduate of The University of California Irvine as an ArtsBridge Scholar and a proud member of Actor´s Equity.
Pieter is a classically trained pianist, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Colorado, Boulder. As a music director and pianist, Pieter has worked regionally on shows such as The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Avenue Q, The Drowsy Chaperone, Mary Poppins, and Beauty and the Beast. At the university level, Pieter has played for and assisted advanced courses in audition technique and musical theatre repertory. Pieter enjoys teaching private lessons with aspiring artists and working with musical theatre professionals in the New York area. He works diligently with his students to create and foster a fun and inclusive creative environment so that each student feels safe to explore their full potential.
Tommy has been performing for over 15 years. He has appeared Off-Broadway, in multiple regional theaters around the country, national tours, voiceovers for commercials, and a sitcom pilot from the creators of Seinfeld. Some of his favorite roles include Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest, Horton in Seussical, and Bobby Strong in Urinetown. He has a passion for sharing his love of theatre to young performers, and has been teaching and directing performing arts education programs for almost 10 years. He has been a teaching artist for many different theatre companies in New York City and has directed the the massive performing arts program at Camp Barney Medintz every summer since 2011, developing programming for over 1,200 kids every year. Some of his favorite directing/choreography credits include Shrek: the musical, Mary Poppins, The Music Man, and All in the Timing. He holds a BA in Musical Theatre and English from The University of Alabama.
Erin McGuirk is an actor, singer, comedian, photographer and mom, a “par-entrepreneur.” Favorite roles include, Kafka in Words, Words, Words, among favorite stage roles, as well as playing the heroine of the Battle of Fort Washington, Margaret Corbin, in NYC’s Fort Tryon Park's Annual Revolutionary War Reenactment. Production has begun incorporating this historic tale and an original film treatment, "George's Fortress". Erin has released her first stand-up comedy album, A Word Edgewise last year and is taping her second album at Caroline’s Comedy Club this spring. She has a comedic film in development, “Off-road World Tour,” as well as a new cooking show on YouTube, Arugula Boulevard Central. She is honored and excited to working with Inside Broadway as a teaching artist and looks forward to working together with such sweet and awesome youngsters, to produce a great musical show, “Broadway Borough Bigtop” this spring. Adding this teaching opportunity to her previous work in many other after-school performing arts programs continues to be a great source of inspiration and confirms her belief that the experience children get through the arts is one of great benefit and fortune.
Adam B. McDonald
Adam B. McDonald is an actor, singer, and teaching artist based in New York City. He was born and raised in Las Vegas and attended the resident performing arts high school. He holds a B.F.A. in Theatre from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (NYU). While at NYU, he attended the Playwrights Horizons Theater School and the Experimental Theater Wing. He most recently appeared in the cabaret, “Bound for Broadway.” As an actor, Adam has been in many musicals, such as Into the Woods and Memphis. He has gotten the opportunity to create original roles in musicals such as Waiting for Dave Franco: The Urban Outfitters Musical, The Musical Project (All the Junk…), and Noise (a musical by Cesar Alvarez). He has worked for the camp life of Interlochen Center for the Arts for two summers and taught master classes in acting and musical theatre in Las Vegas. Cleveland native, Gabriella Mack, is a teaching artist and performer in New York City. She is a proud graduate of AMDA and has performed Off-Broadway, regionally and on national tours. Gabriella specializes in disciplines ranging from theatre to hip hop dance. She has taught for many organizations including Hook Arts Media, The Town Hall, UGot Active Kids, and the Tony Award winning Rosie's Theater Kids. She is thrilled to be joining the Inside Broadway team!
Joseph Lymous is a Brooklyn based New Orleanian. He is a teaching and performing artist with a focus on comedy and self-liberation. For five years Joseph toured nationally and internationally performing in Le Coq based physical theatre shows with ‘Imago Theatre’ of Portland, OR including a run at The New Victory Theatre. Following his return to NYC he became the Co-Artistic Director of ‘Mass Transit Theater’ where he performs and facilitates workshops in the areas of social-emotional literacy, racial equity and conflict resolution. Joseph has trained in Improv and Sketch Comedy Writing at the ‘Upright Citizens Brigade’ and can be seen performing there and many other comedy venues and digital media platforms. He believes that humor is an important tool for inviting young people to explore, grow, and change themselves and their communities at large.”
Gráinne Kelly is a Musical Theatre trained teaching artist with a strong passion and interest in child development and education through theatre and film. Gráinne was born and raised in in Dublin, Ireland and graduated from the Institute of the Arts Barcelona, Spain where she earned her degree by the beach. Gráinne has worked in one of the top PR agencies for theatre and the arts in Dublin and was a teaching artist in Guangzhou, China before moving to New York. She has taught children in Ireland, China, American and Italy. Gráinne is so grateful and excited to be part of the Inside Broadway team.
